Électrices et ÉLUES AU VILLAGE

Magali Della Sudda, Victor Marneur. Les électrices et les élues au village. Granger, Christophe; Le Gall, Laurent; Vignon, Sébastien.

Abstract : Our contribution, restricted to the case of metropolitan France, has the modest ambition of outlining avenues of research on the politicization of women in rural areas before the right to vote and eligibility, and then to give some results for the contemporary period. To do so, this text is based on material collected in the framework of a survey of women elected in rural areas in the Gironde from the 1970s to the present day, as well as on archival holdings. The first part of the paper will look at the ways in which women are included in the village political community and the second part will look at the conditions of eligibility of women in rural areas.

« When male heterosexual leaders politicize gender and sexual issues »

The logic of representation in the 2014 Bordeaux municipal election campaign

Arambourou Clément, Della Sudda Magali, Bugnon Fanny, Marneur Victor, Neyrat Frédéric et Paoletti Marion, “When male heterosexual leaders politicize gender and sexual issues: The logic of representation in the 2014 Bordeaux municipal election campaign”, French Politics, 14(1), avril 2016, p. 83-100.

Summary: Gender and sexual politics were major issues during the 2014 French municipal elections campaign. A few weeks before the election, France experienced large-scale campaigns against gay marriage and gender equality policies. The aim of this article is to question the relationship between descriptive and substantive representation in the context of the municipal election campaign in Bordeaux. In the context of the ‘demo for all’, the return of a religious-based opposition between ‘moral order and permissiveness’ calls for further investigation. This article thus offers an original point of view based on fieldwork at the municipal level and polling data.
